Garlic Gardening

Growing garlic is a long process and it’s easy to screw it by not following some simple steps like socking it in water before taking it to the dirt.

Plants often try to communicate with us through their leaves, if we pay enough attention.

It’s at the end of a January cold winter here and about a month ahead, I started preparing some bulbs of garlic by socking in water till some steams and buds popping out, which help fight fungus and promotes faster and healthy garlic plants.

I have already transferred them outdoors in my garden, where winter temperatures often fall below zero. I mulched them very well to shield the young cloves from hard freezes that can displace the soil from around their tender, shallow roots and also keep them safe in the soil until spring when they will produce new sprouts.
